PhD student for research on people with a severe mental illness that quit smoking - VU Amsterdam
People with a severe mental illness smoke much more often than people from the general population. Smoking is an important cause of an early death. This is mainly attributed to cardiovascular diseases and diseases of the airways as a consequence of smoking. A quit-smoking-program can reduce this health lag in people with a severe mental illness. However, these programs are not sufficiently tested within this target group. Therefore a multidisciplinary team is going to investigate the implementation and effectiveness of a quit-smoking-program.
