“Minimizing falls and related injury in older persons through development of a personalized approach”

Dr. Nathalie van der Velde is co-chair of the Amsterdam Public Health Institutions’ research programme “Aging and Later Life”. Furthermore, she is director of the geriatric medicine fellowship of the Academic Medical Center (AMC) of Amsterdam. She chairs the Dutch Network of Fall clinics (NVKG),  the Dutch Falls prevention guideline (update), and the European special interest group on fall-risk increasing drugs. Since 2014, she is principal investigator and leader of the research line person-centred falls & fracture prevention at the AMC.

Nathalie van der Velde (1974) completed her PhD on drug-related and cardiovascular falls in 2007 at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. After obtaining her specialization in Geriatrics and Internal Medicine at the Erasmus MC in 2010, she started as a consultant at the internal medicine-geriatrics department of the AMC combined with a postdoc position at the Erasmus MC and was head of the geriatrics department of the AMC from June 2014 to June 2017.
