The Dutch Heart Foundation awards six Amsterdam UMC researchers the ‘Dekker grant’

The Dutch Heart Foundation has awarded six researchers of the Amsterdam UMC the ‘Dekker grant’. These grants are personal grants for talented researchers. With these grants (in total more than two million euros) they seek for new solutions for, amongst others, miocardinal infarctions, cardiac failure, and cardiac arrhythmia.

APH researcher Louis Handoko, cardiologist, was one of the researchers receiving the grant. He aims to improve the function of mitochondria with existing medications. These medications will increase the energy impuls to the cardiac muscle cells, which hopefully leads to a less clenched heart in case of heart failure resulting from a stiff heart muscle.
