Reducing avoidable visual impairment in elderly home healthcare patients

On Tuesday 4th of December 2018, Princes Margriet, patron of the WHO project group VISION 2020 Netherlands, handed over the report on avoidable visual impairment in elderly home healthcare patients to the Minister for Medical Care, Bruno Bruins. Ruth van Nispen, Associate Professor ophthalmology, from Amsterdam UMC, explained the results of his project that was conducted at the major home care organization Buurtzorg Nederland. Nispen concluded that basic ophthalmologic screening by home healthcare nurses might be a potentially relevant tool to reduce the burden of age-related vision loss.
