On September 14, 2017, Prof. Willem van Mechelen, MD, PhD, will resign as VU/VUmc Director of the Amsterdam Public Health research institute because he reaches the formal retirement age this year.
Since 2006, Willem van Mechelen has been part of the Executive Board of first EMGO+ and later APH, alternating in the role of Vice Director and Director. For the past decade, Van Mechelen has been of great importance to the institute. Under his leadership, APH has continued the upward development after its establishment in 2016. We are very grateful to him and wish him all the best for the future, in which he will continue to participate as professor in research at the VUmc Department of Public & Occupational Health.
As of September 15, 2017, Martine de Bruijne, MD, PhD, has been appointed as VU/VUmc Director of the APH Institute. Together with Prof. Judith Sluiter, PhD, MBA (AMC Director APH), she will lead the institute until the end of 2019. After that, the directors of all alliance research institutes will be reappointed.
Martine de Bruijne has been working at VUmc since 2000, initially as senior researcher and later as associate professor at the Department of Public and Occupational Health and the EMGO+/APH research institute. Martine is chair of the research section ‘Quality, Risk & Safety in Health Care’ and Deputy Head of Department of Public & Occupational Health. Since 2015, she has been closely involved in the governance of the institute as program leader of the EMGO+/APH research program Quality of Care.
