Veni award for colorectal cancer research by Felipe Vieira Braga

The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded a Veni grant worth up to 250,000 euros to 161 highly promising young scientists. The grant provides the laureates with the opportunity to further elaborate their own ideas during a period of three years.

Cancer Center Amsterdam researcher Felipe Vieira Braga received a Veni award for his research project 'Good cop, bad cop: the role of regulatory T-cells in colorectal cancer development and treatment'

Short project description:
Cancer cells reside in busy neighbourhoods. The moment cancer cells move into the neighbourhood, things start to go wrong. Neighbours usually contact the police (immune cells) to get rid of the cancer cells. I will study how immune cells evict cancer cells from their neighbourhood.
