Professor Judith Huirne in Parool about the taboo on gynaecological complaints

December 8th, Professor Judith Huirne (gynaecologist at the VUmc department of Obstetrics and Gyneacology) spoke in her inaugural lecture about the taboo on menstruation in general and gynaecological complaints in particular.

Research shows that one out of three woman suffers from gynaecological complaints and wait too long to discuss this with a gynaecological specialist. Eventually, if the woman go to the doctor the underlying problem is often overlooked or the menstrual complaints are not taken seriously.

Professor Huirne advocates for a special centre of expertise for benign gynaecological problems. This centre will offer innovative diagnostics and evidence based treatments.
