Dr. Reinier Boon (Dept. of Physiology, VUmc) receives 250.000 euros as part of the European INNOVATION consortium (1.1 million euros).
The ERA-CVD-funded INNOVATION consortium consists of early career but independent researchers from all over Europe (Germany, Italy, Portugal, Austria and the Netherlands) and is co-funded by the Dutch Heart foundation (Hartstichting). The main aim of the consortium is providing new insights to develop therapies for cardiovascular disease by studying the role of non-coding RNAs in the endogenous repair potential of the heart. Together the partners will generate an atlas of cellular gene expression during regeneration of neonatal mouse hearts. This knowledge will then be used to develop a cell-type specific non-coding RNA-based strategy to mimic the neonatal repair capacity in cardiac disease models.
