Your work environment
AMC and VUmc join forces in a merger and are managed as a whole from now on. At Amsterdam UMC, AMC and VUmc work together on excellent care for our patients, we educate promising talents to become a doctor or nurse and we improve the future healthcare thanks to high quality and (inter)nationally recognized scientific research. Together we can do that so much better than alone.
The postdoc is working at the Department of Psychiatry of Amsterdam UMC, location VUmc. The Department has a longstanding tradition in top-end research on the soma-psyche interface and is embedded in the recently established Amsterdam Public Health research institute. See: amsterdamresearch
Over the last decades, it has been repeatedly suggested that psychosocial factors (including depression) may lead to the onset of cancer, possibly in specific subgroups (moderation). Health behaviors (such as smoking) are hypothesized to mediate the association between psychosocial factors and cancer. The evidence to support these hypotheses is conflicting. By performing pre-planned two-stage meta-analyses in 11 cohorts in the Netherlands and 7 international cohorts, the PSY-CA consortium aims to provide evidence based conclusions on (a) psychosocial risk factors for the onset of cancer, (b) moderation by specific factors, and (c) health behaviors as mediating mechanisms. These three issues (a, b and c) are addressed in three separate work packages. The project is funded by the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF).
The postdoc is the central principal investigator on the project. The post doc will prepare the local analyses and central meta-analyses; coordinate the execution of local analyses and central meta-analyses; and perform the central meta-analyses on (a) psychosocial risk factors for the onset of cancer. The post doc is (co)author on all publications. The project is being managed by a Steering group – the post doc is member of the Steering group. Other members of the Steering group are prof. dr. Joost Dekker (psychologist), dr. Alexander de Graeff (medical oncologist) and dr. Adri Voogd (epidemiologist).
The postdoc will be working in a stimulating, multidisciplinary research environment, with a large number of international colleagues. The postdoc will be in the position to develop a strong, international profile on psychosocial factors, health behaviors, and cancer; on meta-analysis; and on managing a large scale international study.
