PNAS publication from the laboratory of Louis Vermeulen
In a recent publication by Maartje van der Heijden en Daniel Miedema from the laboratory of Louis Vermeulen it was resolved how bowel cancers grow. The study, which was a collaboration between both Amsterdam UMC locations and is published in PNAS, uses a combination of in vivo experiments with computational tumor growth models. The researchers found that the environment is the key driver of cancer growth and shapes the evolution of this disease. This has implications for the design of novel therapies and the interpretation of genomic data from solid tumors.
