The results of the recent IASLC (International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer) Board of Directors (BOD) election are in, and we are pleased to announce that Dr. Heather Wakelee has been declared the new President-Elect of the IASLC BOD. Dr. Wakelee will serve as president-elect for a two-year term of 2019-2021, followed by a two-year term as president for 2021-2023 and a two-year term as past-president from 2023-2025.
Joining Dr. Wakelee on the IASLC BOD are new board members Drs. Roy Herbst, Andrea Bezjak, Erik Thunnissen and Caicun Zhou, who each received strong support from their colleagues within the IASLC membership. Out of 5,932 eligible voters, 2,936 ballots were cast over the course of the election, a participation percentage of 49.49%. Votes were cast in 94 countries, with the largest turnout being from China, followed by the United States. The new IASLC bylaws were also passed with 99.8% voting in support of the measure.
The newly-elected IASLC board members will officially assume their roles at the upcoming IASLC 2019 World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC 2019) in Barcelona, Spain, taking place on September 7-10, 2019. These board members will serve a four-year term (2019-2023) and help shape the direction of the IASLC for many years to come.
