Sjoerd receives the grant of €800,000 for the project Understanding stability of walking – active control towards a passively stable pattern? It is largely unclear how human manage to walk on two legs without falling. The hypothesis of the current project is that walking only requires active control in certain moments in the gait cycle. In his project Sjoerd will investigate how this control is exerted.
Sjoerd is currently working at TU Delft, but will carry out the research project at the Faculty of Behavioral and Movement Sciences, VU Amsterdam.
