Merel Brehm appointed as Principal Investigator Rehabilitation Medicine
As of September 1, 2020, Merel Brehm has been appointed Principal Investigator at the department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Amsterdam UMC, location AMC. The research of Merel focuses on lower limb orthotics in patients with chronic disabling conditions. Specific areas of interest include optimization of lower limb orthoses to maximize treatment outcomes and exercise testing, mainly in neuromuscular diseases and cerebral palsy. Merel defended her PhD entitled The clinical assessment of energy expenditure in pathological gait in 2007, and in 2018, she received a ZonMw grant of €398.000 for the project Specialised orthotic care, to improve functioning in adults with neuromuscular diseases. Merel has successfully co-supervised several PhD candidates and is author of a Dutch guideline on lower limb orthotics in neuromuscular diseases.
