Femke van Beek (FGB) was awarded the prize for the best thesis during the World Haptics Conference 2017, in Fürstenfeldbruck, Germany. Femke was awarded the prize for her thesis Making sense of haptics - fundamentals of haptic perception and their implications for haptic device design, which she defended in 2016, and where she conducted fundamental research into the human sense of touch. In her research, Femke has performed fundamental studies to understand how haptic applications should be designed from a human perception point of view. For instance, her research shows that participants improve their performance if test equipment is adjusted to each individual’s different sense of touch.
