Breakfast workshops on valorisation
IXA organises a new series of workshops in the form of breakfast sessions on various topics on valorisation. The workshops are very practical to get you started immediately.
Participation is free of charge but registration is required. Breakfast will be served.
The breakfast workshops are open to all scientists from AMC, HvA, UvA, VU, VUmc, NWO Institutes and KNAW.
IXA is the valorization center of AMC, HvA, UvA, VU and VUmc.
19 April 2019: One-day course: From Idea to Impact

Location: VU Campus main building, exact location t.b.a.
In this one-day course we will take you through all the steps to bring your idea or research results to the market. You will work on developing your idea or research results into an exploitation plan or business case. We will show different models to develop your idea further. You will also get an insight in what stakeholders are looking for, and how you can prepare yourself to enter into dialogue with them.
In the afternoon you will train how to get attention for yourself and your idea or research in networking situations. You will be able to practice your elevator pitch with an actor. More information and registration.

Why should you put your precious time and energy into media appearances? How do you attract attention from journalists? And what are the secrets of giving a good interview? Appearances in the media can boost, but also damage your academic career. This makes a well-considered media strategy a must have for every researcher. This interactive session will introduce you to the world of mass media. You will learn how to formulate your personal media strategy and how to apply this to pro-actively use media appearances for your purposes. You will also get a glimpse of the way journalists work and how you can help them find you and become interested in your research. Finally, the basics of giving a good interview will be addressed. From valorisation grants to collaborating with companies.
In this workshop we provide an overview of the financing possibilities in the different stages of the valorisation process. We are going to discuss the various types of valorisation grants and funds.
The utilisation paragraph will also be discussed. And we will cover other forms of financing, like crowdfunding and collaborating with a company. What is a company looking for and what are important criteria for them to collaborate? More information and registration.

What should you take into account in collaborations with an external partner? What do you need to settle in a contract? Who is authorised to sign and should Intellectual Property (IP) always be included in a contract?
